Why BHCOE Accreditation Matters: AZA United’s Commitment to Quality Autism Services
At AZA United, our focus is not just to provide important services, but to provide the highest quality services possible for individuals with autism and their families. That commitment is one reason we are proud to maintain accreditation from the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE), a nationally recognized accrediting body dedicated to advancing quality and accountability in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services.
While families often hear about certifications for individual professionals, BHCOE accreditation evaluates the quality of an entire organization. It is an intensive, independent review process that examines clinical practices, operational systems, ethical standards, staff training, client protections, and overall service quality. Organizations that earn accreditation must demonstrate a commitment to meeting rigorous standards and continuously improving the care they provide.
A Mark of Excellence in Autism Services
BHCOE describes accreditation as an earned distinction that demonstrates an organization’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement in Applied Behavior Analysis services, such as ABA Therapy. The accreditation process evaluates whether providers meet established standards for both clinical and operational excellence.
For families seeking services, accreditation provides additional confidence that the organization has undergone review by an independent third party and has demonstrated adherence to recognized quality standards. It also reflects a commitment to ongoing accountability rather than a one-time achievement.
A Long-Standing Commitment
AZA United was first accredited by BHCOE in 2019 and has successfully maintained accreditation through subsequent review cycles. Our most recent accreditation certificate recognizes AZA United for demonstrating conformance with the Standards of Excellence for Applied Behavior Analysis services.
In 2024, AZA United earned a new two-year national accreditation for our ABA Treatment Services program while also receiving accreditation as a training site for future Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). The accreditation standards and requirements during this cycle were even more rigorous than in previous review cycles.
What Accreditation Means for Families
Families deserve more than empty promises about “quality.” Our families deserve accountability that services are delivered with quality, consistency, and accountability.
The BHCOE review process examines many aspects of service delivery, including:
- Clinical quality and treatment practices
- Staff qualifications and training
- Ethical standards and professional conduct
- Family involvement and satisfaction
- Data collection and decision-making systems
- Client rights, safety, and privacy protections
- Continuous quality improvement processes
These standards help ensure that services are focused not only on delivering treatment, but also on producing meaningful outcomes and maintaining a positive experience for individuals and families.
For AZA United, these expectations align closely with the values that have guided our organization for more than two decades: family-centered care, evidence-based practices, neuro-affirming support, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to achieving meaningful outcomes for those we serve.
Accountability Drives Improvement
One of the most valuable aspects of accreditation is the emphasis on continuous improvement. The accreditation process requires organizations to examine their systems, gather feedback from families and employees, analyze outcomes, and identify opportunities to strengthen services. This externally validated approach helps ensure that organizations do not become complacent and instead continue striving for excellence.
At AZA United, this commitment to evaluation and improvement is reflected across our programs. We regularly review client outcomes, family feedback, employee feedback, operational performance, and service quality indicators to guide organizational decision-making. BHCOE accreditation helps reinforce and strengthen this culture of accountability.
Supporting Arizona Families
Maintaining national accreditation also benefits the broader autism community in Arizona. BHCOE accreditation helps support our designation as an Autism Center of Excellence and contributes to programs that recognize and incentivize high-quality care. More importantly, accreditation helps ensure that families have access to an organization that is committed to transparency, ethical practice, workforce development, and measurable outcomes.
When families choose AZA United, they can be confident that our services have been evaluated against nationally recognized standards and that we remain committed to ongoing quality improvement.
Looking Forward
Accreditation is not a final destination. It is a commitment to the future.
We are proud of the work that went into achieving and maintaining BHCOE accreditation, but we recognize that the true measure of success is the impact we have on the lives of the individuals and families we serve every day. We are grateful to our dedicated staff, leadership team, trainees, and families who make this achievement possible. Their feedback, collaboration, and trust continue to drive us forward.
As AZA United grows and expands services throughout Arizona, BHCOE accreditation serves as an important reminder of our promise: to provide high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care while continuously striving to improve.
That commitment to excellence is, and always will be, at the heart of everything we do.
