Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client. Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems that cause emotional turmoil, improve communication and coping skills, strengthen self-esteem, increase resiliency, and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. AZA United’s Resilient Hearts Counseling Program is built upon evidence-based treatment models, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Our services are offered face-to-face in the office or virtually using telehealth video technology. Our team is made up of professionally trained counselors, each working under the clinical supervision of a highly trained and experienced Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
AZA United offers individual, couples, family and group counseling for individuals with autism and their family members. Families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have a life experience that offers certain challenges amplified by the presence of ASD. Therapeutic services such as ABA or speech therapy are commonly recommended because of language and behavioral challenges, but it is important to not overlook the mental health needs of parents, siblings and other family members. Additionally, some teens, adolescents and adults with ASD may have social and emotional needs that go beyond what other treatments and services can support. Common issues that counseling may help alleviate include anxiety, depression, trauma and stressor related disorders, and relational problems in the social environment.
We believe resilience is integral for living a satisfying, full and vital life. In the Resilient Hearts Counseling Program, we will work to promote healing by recovering from hardships that the client has experienced. Through this we will foster resilience which is the ability to thrive when life is still difficult. For families receiving other services with AZA United, such as ABA Treatment Services or Clinical Family Coaching, we strive to provide an integrated therapy model where the clinicians collaborate within the bounds of patient privacy to ensure that treatment is consistent, and that each program supports the others. Our mission at AZA United is to help as many families as possible with individualized supports, and we believe that building resilience and supporting the emotional wellbeing of those affected by ASD and their family members is a critical part of that endeavor.
