Staff Bio - Erica Skepnek

Dr. Erica Skepnek is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Senior Director of Psychological & Diagnostic Services at Arizona Autism United (AZA United).  She completed her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees in Illinois, and her internship and residency training experiences were completed in California.  She obtained her license, relocated to Arizona, and began working with another local autism nonprofit in 2011.  She was welcomed to the AZA United team in 2021, where she developed and launched the diagnostic services program.  She revamped and relaunched the psychotherapy and counseling services program at AZA United in 2024.   

Dr. Skepnek has been working in the field of autism for almost two decades in a variety of different capacities.  Her experience has mainly focused on building, managing, and refining diagnostic services for individuals with autism and other developmental and emotional/behavioral disabilities, although she has also provided individual, family, and group therapy, facilitated social and vocational programming, and developed life and social skills curriculum for individuals with autism.  Her primary responsibilities include the development, oversight, and management of psychotherapy and diagnostic services as well as the completion of diagnostic evaluations with children, adolescents, and adults with developmental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.  Over the past year, Dr. Skepnek has also been developing a comprehensive training program for future psychologists to include practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral residents in an effort to eventually increase the pool of psychologists capable of diagnosing autism and thus decrease wait times for clients and improve access to services and supports.  

Dr. Skepnek is passionate about providing services to individuals with autism and their families throughout the lifespan and has particular expertise in evaluating and treating older adolescents and adults.
